Amanda Slater, LPC, CPCS

Hi, thanks for stopping by Slater Therapeutic Services. I’m excited that you’ve decided to take the first steps toward personal growth. I would love to offer you a free 15 minute Consultation.

Therapy is most effective when there is a strong therapeutic alliance, a 15min consult will help us gauge compatibility. During the consult you will have the chance to briefly express your concerns and articulate what you hope to gain from therapy and clarify any questions you may have about the therapeutic process. By providing this preliminary guidance, you can make informed decisions about your therapy journey and we can select the treatment approach that aligns best with your goals.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING

I am licensed professional counselor and counselor supervisor in the state of Georgia. I received my Bachelors of Science in Psychology from Virginia State University and then traveled south to complete my Masters in Clinical Psychology from Argosy University.

I have over 10 years of experience, treating ages as young as 4 years old to geriatric age. I have worked in various settings including; outpatient clinics, emergency rooms, ICU floors and psychiatric inpatient facilities. I am skilled at conducting acute level of care assessments, individual counseling, group counseling, community outreach and managed care. My extensive psychiatric background has allowed me to treat a variety of mental health diagnosis and substance use disorders.

Some of us tend to be seen as the "strong friend" – the one others lean on during challenging times. If you find yourself in this role, it can be both rewarding and demanding. Being the strong friend means that others trust you and feel comfortable confiding in you. You have a reputation for being dependable, level-headed, and capable of providing support and guidance. People often rely on you without considering the emotional toll it may take on you. The expectation to be strong all the time can become overwhelming, leaving you with little space to attend to your own struggles or vulnerabilities. It's crucial to remember that you are not invincible and that it's okay to ask for support when you need it.

Therapy offers the strong friend a safe space to explore your own emotions and vulnerabilities without judgment. It serves as a reminder that seeking support is not a sign of weakness, but a courageous act of self-awareness and self-care. In therapy, you are encouraged to express yourself honestly, untangle your thoughts, and gain insights into your emotional landscape.

Therapy is not exclusive to those in visible distress; it is also for you, the strong friend who silently carry the burdens of others. Perhaps the most profound result of therapy for the strong friend is the positive ripple effect it creates. By prioritizing your own well-being, you can continue to be a pillar of support for others without sacrificing yourself.

I am the “Strong Friend’s” Therapist, book your 15min consultation and allow me to check on you.
